Website redesign: a fresh look for your existing site

We give your existing WordPress site a new design, a proper mobile view and faster loading while keeping your content, URLs and Google rankings exactly where they are.

  • Typical scope approx. 18 h
  • Roughly 900 € + VAT
  • Assessment and estimate are free

Your website was built five or six years ago. The content is still accurate and Google ranks you well, but the design looks dated, the mobile view is cramped and pages take their time to load. You do not want a brand-new site, because the texts, subpages and addresses all work. In that situation the sensible move is to replace the visual layer and leave the content, URLs and rankings untouched.

The result is the same site with a new face: modern typography, colours, header and footer, a mobile view that works and faster loading, with every old link still landing in the right place. That is how we did the Aknakoda website refresh, where the content stayed and the design changed, and the ProSwim e-shop redesign in 2026, where the new design was built as a child theme on top of the existing shop logic.

What the work includes

  • Review of the current site. We look at the theme, plugins, PHP version, page structure and Search Console data. Based on that we tell you honestly whether a refresh is enough or a rebuild makes more sense.
  • New visual layer. Typography, colours, buttons, header, footer and templates for the main page types: home, content page, news, contact. We build them either as a new theme or as a child theme over the existing one, depending on how much of the old theme is worth keeping.
  • Content stays. Texts, images, subpages and menu structure remain as they are; we fit them into the new templates. Where needed we clean out leftover page-builder shortcodes.
  • Mobile fixes. Narrow columns, text that is too small, broken menus and forms on phones and tablets.
  • Speed. Images at the right size and in modern formats, unnecessary scripts and plugins removed, caching configured. The goal is to pass the Core Web Vitals thresholds.
  • URLs and rankings. All addresses stay the same; if a page does move or disappear, it gets a 301 redirect. We check titles, meta descriptions, the XML sitemap and schema.org markup.
  • WordPress, PHP and plugin updates. Before the design work we bring core, the PHP version and plugins up to date, so the new theme does not sit on an outdated base.
  • Work on a copy, then launch. We build the new design on a staging copy, you review it, and we switch the live site over in one go. A backup is taken first.
  • Post-launch checks. We test forms, Google Analytics and Tag Manager tags, Search Console errors and indexing. A week later we check that rankings have not started to move.

Typical situations

A company site from 2017 whose design has aged, but whose content and Google rankings are good and must not be put at risk. An old theme that no longer receives updates and will not run on a current PHP version, so the PHP upgrade has stalled too. A site built with a page builder that makes it slow, with half the content unusable on a phone. A shop that works, but whose look no longer supports sales and needs a new design without interrupting the order and product logic.

What we need from you

  • Access to the WordPress admin and the server (FTP or SSH).
  • Access to Google Search Console and Analytics.
  • Logo as a vector file, brand colours and fonts if they exist; a few examples of sites whose look you like.
  • A decision on which subpages stay, which are merged and which go.
  • One person who reviews and approves the design.

What is not included

  • Writing new copy or content for new subpages. We use the existing content and make small corrections along the way.
  • Building a completely new site from scratch, which is a separate service.
  • A thorough SEO review when the URL structure changes extensively; for that there is the SEO migration check.
  • Monthly maintenance after launch, available as a maintenance agreement.

Who it suits

A refresh suits you when the content and structure are sound, the site runs on WordPress and the problem lies in the look, the mobile view or the speed. A new site is the better choice when most of the content has to be rewritten, the structure changes fundamentally, the site is not on WordPress, or the old theme and plugins are so intertwined that untangling them takes longer than rebuilding. If you only want to swap a ready-made theme without design work, see moving to a new theme.

  1. Send an enquiry

Send us your site address and a couple of sentences about the problem. We usually reply the same or the next working day.

  2. We review it and give you the price

The assessment is free. You’ll know the exact time and price before you decide on anything.

  3. We do the work and report back

We take a backup before making changes. When the work is done you get a summary of exactly what was done and what to keep an eye on going forward.

Frequently asked questions

Will the old links and Google rankings be preserved?

Yes, that is the premise of the work. Addresses stay the same, any page that changes gets a 301 redirect, and after launch we check indexing and errors in Search Console.

Do you build a new theme or a child theme?

We decide after the review. If the old theme is solid and maintained, a child theme is faster and cheaper; if it is abandoned or tangled up with a page builder, a new lightweight theme makes more sense.

Is a refresh better than a new site?

A refresh fits when the content and structure are sound and the problem is the look, the mobile view or the speed. If the content and structure need a major overhaul or the site is not on WordPress, we recommend a new site.

Will the site be down during the work?

No. We build the new design on a staging copy and switch the live site over in one go, after taking a backup. The interruption is usually a few minutes.

How much does it cost and how long does it take?

We start with a free review and estimate, where we also say whether a refresh is worth it at all. We bill by actual time spent; a refresh of a smaller site is usually ready within a couple of weeks.
